Radiation and your health
Don’t let the fear of radiation dosage keep you from getting the most accurate testing. Today’s modern medical procedures utilize various types of radiation to help save lives and heal patients. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the risks from the radiation dose associated with both mammography and BSGI/MBI procedures are considered to be “minimal.”
Though you may not be aware of it, radiation is all around us. Did you know that the radiation dose from the MBI is equivalent to the individual exposure from living in Denver, Colorado for one year? The radiation encountered by laptop usage, granite countertops, bananas, Brazil nuts, salt, lawn fertilizer and airport scanners add up to more radiation than one annual BSGI/MBI test.
According to RadiologyInfo.org, a website co-developed by the American College of Radiology and Radiological Society of North America, “…there are no known long-term adverse effects from such low-dose exposure.” Like mammography, the benefits of MBI greatly outweigh the risks due to radiation exposure.
