BSGI Aids in Surgical Planning

A Surgeon's Perspective

BSGI, a molecular imaging study of the breast, aids in the accurate and early detection of breast cancer. This innovative technology mimics mammographic views, providing a physiologic correlation to anatomical structure of the mammogram, regardless of tissue density.

Using a physiological approach to breast cancer detection allows for more specific evaluations and improved management of challenging cases. BSGI provides physiological data not available from any other imaging modality - helping to quickly determine the nature of suspicious lesions, and in many cases - the extent of disease.

Advantages of BSGI with the Dilon 6800 Gamma Camera:
  • Documented high sensitivity for DCIS and lobular carcinomas
  • High Sensitivity and specificity for subcentimeter lesions
  • BSGI can be used for patients who cannot comply with MR due to body habitus, ferromagnetic implants or other issues
  • Mimic all mammographic views for easy image correlation
  • Helps evaluate the need and localize areas of interest for biopsy.
  • One third the cost per procedure of MR or PET Studies
  • High patient compliance and low false positive rate
  • High negative predictive value
